Undoubtedly, flower festival is the greatest promotion of Madeira. Madeira's diverse flowers can be showcased through an allegoric flower parade, which began in 1979 on the island of eternal spring. It is important to say we need to import the majority of the flowers used for this occasion. An extensive program, from the 1st of May to the 25th, which is being a huge success. The uniqueness of Madeira cannot be overstated, and it requires preservation and respect to maintain its fantastic island.

Bird of Paradise - "Strelitzia reginae" Around the word this beautiful flower is associated with Madeira Island but its origin is from South Africa.

Perhaps because it appears on many postcards or because we have a huge amount of these all over the Island, sometimes next to the houses, public gardens or even up tp 400 meters high is some areas.

Calla Lily - "Zantedeschia aethiopica"

The Madeiran people are proud to live in this paradise so it is very common to see various types of flowers around their houses in pots or gardens, but because Madeira is a garden these flowers also grow naturally in our mountains up to an altitude of 800 meters. At the end of September and beginning of October we started to see these beautiful flowers blooming in our forests.

Garden Nasturtium - "Tropaeolum majus"

This herb grows well in Madeira up to 300 meters high and it gives this fantastic flower, which in some countries is used in salads or for medicinal purposes because it has a large amount of vitamin C.

Prickly Cardoon - "Cynara cardunculus" Madeira has an immense landscape diversity, this part of the island being drier and more arid where the green preduminate does not exist at all, but we can always find some vegetation or flowers, in this case Prickly Cardoon - endemic of Madeira and the Canary Islands.

Madeira is certainly the pride of all of us, it is often difficult to find words to describe everything that this magical island has, providing not only to the locals, but also all those who visit us that feeling of peace and tranquility that we can call Paradise on Earth.

Prive of Madeira - "Echium candicans"
